LEO Club of CEG is in its same hearty walk of helping, donating and giving hands in all its possible norms. One among these helping hands was the request accepted from The Puthiya Pookal Charitable Trust, a government-registered trust, located at 219G Block, Elephant Gate Chennai–03. The request was to help the respective trust to raise its funds in order to aid during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in turn, our club did more towards the cause. Our club along with its hands, stretched its arms to all fellow people surrounding it to do the same. Through one approach or the other, the club paid its request to the Charity Trust faithfully. Now, it’s time for our club to whole heartedly thank its well-wishers who made their mind broader and spread out the club’s aim and motive.
The coronavirus played terribly, making people all around the world stun with its effects. People suffered a lot economically to run their families owing to the lockdown. LEO Club of CEG took an initiative to help the people of Chennai by raising funds. In April 2020, our club collaborated with Puthiya Pookal Charitable Trust to help the people in the area of Pammathukulam in North Madras. Owing to the pandemic, our team decided to raise funds through social networks. Using Paytm, Google Pay, etc., people were requested to donate money to help the needy people. The request for raising funds was made through Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook platforms, through which, other clubs, CEG students and official organisations of CEG aided our club in sharing the details of the fund collection for the needy people. As a result, at the end of April, LEO Club of CEG collected SIXTEEN THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY RUPEES
Our club gave the collected funds from the students to the Puthiya Pookal Charitable Trust. Along with the money raised by our club, the Trust added their funds too, using which they arranged 12 bags of rice, 100 packets of oil, chilli powder, and thoor dhal which are basic food ingredients that helped the needy people to prepare their food during the pandemic. With these items, they helped nearly hundreds of people at Pammathukulam in North Chennai. The items were distributed among the needy people on 1 May 2020 with the help of Puthiya Pookal Charitable Trust. The amounts collected by our club helped few people in North Madras during this pandemic; this gives immense pleasure to the LEO Club of CEG in helping people during such nation-wide crises.
Community Service
The COVID-19 pandemic created severe hardships for all of us in terms of physical, mental and economic well-being. However, the most vulnerable sections of this pandemic included people who lost their livelihood and were in a state of utter despair. They were not well educated, had less awareness of the pandemic and had poor access to mass media that broadcasted important information related to the pandemic. As a small step towards helping this downtrodden section of the society, LEO Club of CEG distributed 200 face masks and 100 sanitizer bottles to the people belonging to the slum area of Surya Nagar in Kotturpuram, which is very close to our college. This was done with the help of our sponsor CNSI. By doing this, we were able to create awareness among the residents of the slum of the pandemic, and also supplied them with the essential materials(masks and sanitizers) to curb the spread of the virus.
Motivational Talk
Many of us have different goals and dreams to be cherished; one prominent goal among many is to ace the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Owing to the pandemic, majority of the aspiratnts were deprived of seeking their goals in terms of classes, ideas and motivation. Taking this into consideration, the LEO Club of CEG arranged a webinar session which was held on 8 August 2020.
This session was addressed by Ms. Yogapriyanka, IRS Officer and an alumna of CEG after gratefully accepting the request from our club. The session was conducted for about 90 minutes, and more than 80 people took part actively throughout the session. In this session, students were given ideas mainly to approach the examination and the preparatory steps to be followed earlier. They were suggested the types of books to refer, time management for both preparing as well as during the examination, so on and so forth.
They were made to seek knowledge from newspaper reading, which highlights the current affairs and plays an important role in the examination. They were guided with the sequence of events to be followed to face the exam boldly. The session was quite interactive as the doubts from the students' side were also cleared. The efficacy of the session was thoroughly analyzed to provide better sessions in the future.
UPSC Webinar
LEO Club of CEG arranged an interactive webinar session with Mr. Srutanjay Narayanan (Geo-informatics, Batch of 2015) who had cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination, 2019, with an All India Rank of 75. He had discussed various aspects of his preparation and also gave insights into the examination pattern to the aspirants from our college. Following were the key points delivered by the speaker in the webinar:
Work ethics are the most important.
Be confident while preparing and use all the resources available.
Be passionate to serve the nation.
The structure of the UPSC CSE – i.e., Prelims, Mains and Interview was outlined. The marks scored in the preliminary examination will be used only as a criterion for elimination and won’t count towards the final rank.
Follow only standard books for studying, after referring the syllabus.
Mock tests must be taken up seriously and goals must be set to achieve the top5-10%of the ranks in the mock tests.
Accuracy comes with practice.
Essays must be logical and neatly presented by using familiar examples wherever possible.
Incorporate inspirational stories from other subjects in your ethics paper.
Try to have a good rapport with your coach/mentor.
Study for prelims with MAINS APPROACH. Do not study for prelims and mains separately.
Refer previous year question papers for Prelims and prepare based on syllabus for Mains.
Use social media in a disciplined manner.
Take feedback seriously.
Vocalization of thoughts is extremely important for acing the interview. At the end of the session, the speaker clarified the doubts of the participants.
